I’d write more about these sets, but to do that I would have to lever toys out of my son’s hands. Business in the back… and the front, too, I guess. You don’t want to wear those, what if you hit a bump?” “Well, they’re unlicensed nuclear reactors. My wife even played with them a little, noting that it’s annoying to have to take their backpacks off to seat them in the front. Now, the boy may have liked it, but I loved that they chose Janine and Winston as the figures for this set. Oh, the lights! The sounds! Like stepping into the movie. Also, he seemed less interested in playing with it than the Skybike, for some reason… until he had a chance to sound the siren. The Ecto-1 build is significantly more advanced, and my boy needed some help. The Playmobil Ecto-1 was a finalist for the ToyFair 2018 toy of the year, and boy can I see why! Such fun! So many things to do!īut Ecto-1? That they sent me. I went hands-on at a press event and was impressed. Friends of mine had the original Firehouse play set from Kenner, a decent toy for the time, but the new one is even better. The selection of smaller Ghostbusters sets is impressive, but the two jaw-droppers are the firehouse and Ecto-1. It actually sits in a place of honor next to his bed. He quite liked that it was three toys-a vehicle, a Ghostbuster, and a ghost. He was tickled pink by the included ghost-“Look! He is HOLDING HIS EYE!”-but was not as amused by the “slime darts” the Skybike comes with, which tend to fall out. The only intervention required from me was to snap one wing in place. I thought he would have more trouble with The Real Ghostbuster Mission pack. The Skybike with Stanz was a bit more of a challenge for him, but not on a level where he got frustrated or gave up. He built the set so quickly I didn’t even have time to take any photos! He was super excited to see there was an app in the form of the “Playmogram” 3D System. He had Egon built in about three minutes and was carefully applying every sticker and decal. He started with the Ghostbusters II Spengler figure. So I thought I would try a little experiment: I let my son do everything, with no help. And yet, when he saw the two sample Ghostbuster sets Playmobil sent me, he was excited. He loves them, but he hates following directions. At only 7 (“and three quarters,” he would be quick to add), he’s a bit young, in my opinion.Īnother thing about my son is that he’s not great with building toys. My son, however, has no clue what Ghostbusters are beyond the occasional reference in another show. ![]() Be it the classic movies, the amazing-for-its-time Real Ghostbusters Cartoon and toyline, or the fantastic IDW comic books, I am ALWAYS down to bust some ghosts.
